28 ride last TT of season

TT Results for 31st August 2017

After 19 weeks this was the final TT of the SNCC season and it was great to see 28 riders at the start line ready to push themselves around the challenging 11.2 mile Abbotsley course. Conditions were dry and the wind was still, however looking at some of the riders you would have thought that winter was pending with bobble hats and over jackets on display to help them keep warm.

With the setting sun directly in their eyes at the start line the 28 riders were set off, as always, by our three timekeepers – Mandy , Colin and John – who no matter the weather conditions are there every Thursday to allow the rest of us to be able to enjoy the TT.

Our thanks to all of them and also for ensuring that all the road signs are put up and taken down around the course. The TTs would not happen without them and we are all very grateful for the time and commitment they provide.

Quickest home this evening was Ryan who turned in an excellent 24:43 followed by our own Nic who posted 25:33 and then the evergreen veteran farmer Pat Ellerbeck in third place with a 26:42 which was also an 8 second improvement over his previous PB. Also posting PBs this evening was one of our most recent new members David Leech and another of our evergreen veterans Alistair Henderson.

Consolidating his position at the top of the 2017 Handicap Table was Simon Elkington who ended the season with an excellent tally of 265 points and once again congratulations to Simon for his consistency and improvement throughout the season. Nic Pillinger was second with 205 points and in third place in his first season was Dave Salmon with 177 points.

53 club members took part this year which is a third of our membership and special mention to our oldest club member Leon Bradford who at 75 years managed to attend all 19 TTs this season.

We would also like to acknowledge the support from our guest riders this season including the Stokes brothers – Ian and Kevin, Dom Whitehead, Andrew Knowles, Nathan Gibson and Michael Hoy. We look forward to seeing you all again in 2018.

Dom and Andrew decided to do a “two up” this evening, hence the two names on the results sheet.

There were 413 rides this season at 11.2 miles = 4,600 miles around the Abbotsley course.

Average time on the night was 30:47 and average number at the TTs is 22 for the season with over 60 riders taking part so far in 2017.

There is now only 33 weeks left until the start of the 2018 TT season and we wish all riders a safe return to the start line next April.

Handicap Results

Quick reminder that for the Handicap Trophy points are awarded for the number of riders on the night less Guests and First Time Members. So tonight 28 riders and 22 points on offer. A Handicap Time of 25 minutes or less means that you have either matched your PB or improved on it.

A handicap time > 25 minutes shows how much you missed your PB by. To be in contention for points you need to ride close to your PB or improve on it.

Congratulations to David for taking the maximum points on the evening.

Great pics! And I wanted to add a big thank you to Mandy, Colin and John for looking after our club TT so well. I've found it really friendly and well-organised - streets ahead of my experience at other local clubs
