St Neots Cycling Club has for the last 8 years organised a very special, early season ride for cycling enthusiasts from their own club and surrounding clubs. Known as the St Neots Reliability Ride, the event is a traditional way for cyclists to test themselves and their freshly polished steeds before the more serious challenges and events of the spring and summer! It’s fun to be outside too, whatever the weather!

It’s become traditional for the event to be held during the latter part of February, and run from the facility in Great Paxton of Titan, where there is plenty of space for car parking for riders who prefer to arrive by car. A special feature of the event is that every single pound raised in entries and donations goes directly to charity with this year’s recipients being Jimmy’s Cambridge (www.jimmyscambridge.org.uk) and Winter Comfort (www.wintercomfort.org.uk) who are also based in Cambridge.

Since the start, Holdsworth Foods of Bedford (www.holdsworth-foods.co.uk) have sponsored the SNCC Reliability Ride and it’s their continued sponsorship of the event that has grown its reputation and has enabled many thousands of pounds to be given to charity. This year, in recognition of their tremendous support, the club asked their Sales Director, Gary Adnitt of Potton to choose the recipient charities. He chose Jimmy’s and Winter Comfort who work in harmony to help individuals who may have fallen on hard times and need short and longer term support in a variety of ways.

The event is open to everyone who can ride a bike, you do not need to be a member of a club. There are a number of road routes, as well as an off-road route and a “Breeze” route for starters. The routes are all identified, published and downloadable on the St Neots Cycling Club website.  All that’s asked is that you pay the suggested minimum donation of £10 and that you arrive at Titan for a latest start time of 10:00. To enter in advance please make your payment to the SNCC account #40-40-10 and #80724513, with “RR” as a reference.  Alternatively we will also accept cash payment on the day. Once you return there will be a warm space, free soup and generous cakes provided by Holdsworth Foods and a chance to natter with cycling friends. If you can’t ride on the day, donations can still be made through the methods above. Juniors under the age of 16 can ride the 20-mile route for free if under supervision from a fee-paying adult

So, no excuses! You can turn up on the day and ride for a good cause, and receive warming nourishment at the end!

We are looking forward to seeing you at PE19 6TA on Sunday 26th February between 08:30 and 10:00.

Jimmy’s opened in 1995 as Cambridge’s first all year round night shelter and now offers a much wider range of support. It remains one of the most prominent organisations within the community supporting people who have been rough sleeping in the city. Through our many years of experience of working with vulnerable individuals we recognise the need for everyone to be treated in a confidential manner and with respect, compassion, and empathy.

Wintercomfort was established in 1990 by a group of local volunteers in response to the increasing number of homeless people in Cambridge.

The volunteers began distributing warm clothing, sleeping bags and food from what was known within the community as ‘the blue bus’. The charity is the only day-time service in the city, providing year-round advice and support for homeless or vulnerably housed people each year. Today, our services are in greater demand than ever, as we all face continued challenges in the wake of the Covid-19 pandemic.
