Racing Licence or Licence to RACE! was created by Di2vid Lindsay
Hi people.

I was thinking about the process to apply for a licence..

Could anyone that has been through this application recently write up a little article on how they and the steps taken.

This may encourage others to do so end get more St Neots riders to the events some of the members are already participating.

Obviously this opens up more questions about racing in general but I thought this could be a good starting point...

Best wishes

You have to be a member of British Cycling and have a racing licence to race in BC sanctioned events (which is most road races) CTT (time trial) events are different.

Here is a link to the information you'll need for BC

I think the best place to start road racing is on a closed road circuit but there are some to avoid - Crystal Palace is very technical and fast, and Hillingdon is renown for crashes in lower category races.

Hog Hill is a good circuit and there are training sessions on it so potential to ride it before racing on it.

If there are races at Rockingham again this year, this is an ideal circuit but the series last year was quite late into the season.

If people want to go racing, I am happy to try to arrange an event we can all go to and show people the ropes.

Tim and I have done a couple of the MK Bowl races this year. Again circuit races and they would be a good place to start. Not quite as good as the Rockingham races as the Bowl races are 3s and 4th cats racing together (you would be a 4th cat and racing against me and Justin - 3rds cover a wide range of ability).

The course can be quite technical. They tend to do the first half around the bowl - this is just fast, then take it on to more technical areas for the second half. In wet weather the race tends to be just around the bowl.

If you want to have a go without commiting to a full licence you can buy a day licence to race a single event. I'll be doing more of the MK races than club TTs so if you want to come along. let me know

Thank you for your feedback guys, I appreciate it.

Two thoughts:

Justin, that's a brilliant idea to organise some training for the likes of me, I wouldn't know where to start and also would learn a lot prior to any race. Last thing I want to do is crash.

Richard, absolutely love to come along with you one night. It would be in my best interest to do some training first I feel

Who else would be interested doing some racing or having some training from those that can?

Richard, I would like to go and view, just to see what it's all about. So let me know when you have a spare seat.

I think I'll be going most Thursdays, so whenever you want to go let me know. Slightly self-interestedly, would you be happy to marshal one evening?

MK Bowl is quite a good place to watch. The circuits are relatively short and there are always a couple of races running at the same time. Can get a bit confusing if there are splits.

Any support for the riders is welcome though!

Also out of interest how many miles is the MK race?

I have erased my last comment... whoops

Justin, the link you gave. Is it the silver membership and race license that is required? I think a day license would suffice in the first instance as suggested.

Wayne

Perhaps we just need to turn up and give it a go!

- I'd kick myself just to go and watch and not bring the bike...

The MK races are about 50 minutes plus 3 laps, so I would guess distance would be around 25miles give or take.
