Stassi's Race Report
On Sunday I raced the Cambridge town centre crit. I was quite nervous after a month away from racing due to hitting the deck and damaging my rotator cuff. Luckily I had lots of lovely faces to see from the club beforehand keeping me relaxed. For the first 20 minutes I was a bit stressed being back in the bunch, I've been used to how close we all ride to each other and the occasional lean on to another rider, but having been down I knew how painful one mistake could be. My nerves finally settled and I was able to concentrate on the race. I struggled to move up through the group with such thin roads, and the wider parts of the course being quite stretched out due to the wind being strong down the back straight. The race itself didn't feel too physical compared to most of the crits I've done, but tactically I personally struggled. However my teammate put me to shame and got away in a 4 person break which stayed away for the whole race. I rolled in just within the top 30, but my teammate came in 3rd, an excellent result for her! I hope everyone that came to watch had a really great time, apart from the stress of racing I find the atmosphere at town centre crits is pretty unmatched, so I hope everyone shared that!
