TT Report 1st August 2013
Ian Turner was fastest again on the night with a time of 25.27, almost a full minute and a half ahead of Chris Ritchie (26.56) who shaved a full 38 seconds off his own previous best. Taking the final “podium slot” was Darren Preston with a 27.25.
Fourth went to Adrian Taverna (28.17) who was just a single second away from his PB and he edged out Kye Liddle (28.18) by the same narrowest of margins. Kye himself recorded the other PB of the night, improving by 1.30.
22 competitors started the event on what was a very hot and sticky evening (at 7pm the temperature was still 30 deg C) with a strong, warm SSE wind facing the riders along the back straight past the Golf Course and into Tetworth. There were four debutants the fastest of which was James Holt with a very creditable 30.36 on his first ever TT (and showing he had inherited none of his father’s cycling DNA). Dave Silk also took part in his first TT having previously only participated in the Club’s Introductory Rides. For Anne Lawrence, this was her first start of the season whilst Janice Droham was the other first timer.
The puncture fairy again visited Andrew Kluth who, not for the first time this season, punctured before the start.
We are reliably informed that Ian Turner also won the Ashwell 10 this week.

In the Handicap Trophy, there were 16 maximum points on offer with Kye Liddle grabbing those. Gareth Smith took 15 and Adrian Taverna next on 14. Jon Keefe retains the overall Trophy points lead but Gareth Smith in second closed the gap by 11 points. Adrian Taverna leapfrogged Simon Richardson into third whilst Andy Holt retains 5th.
There are now just 4 events left in the season which ends on Thursday 29th August. We are now firmly in the holiday season and with some of the leading contenders away over the remaining weeks, there is still plenty of opportunity to change the standings.
