St Neots CC TT results for 21st July 2016

27 riders were at the start line on a very benign and calm evening to test themselves on the 11.2 mile Abbotsley course. First home with only the third sub 25 minute time this season was Ian Turner with an impressive 24:51 followed by Karl Hiner who missed his PB by one second in 26:09 and Nic Pillinger in third place with 26:23.

The conditions contributed to 9 PBs this evening, and congratulations to Sam MacDonald, Dave Richards, Gareth Smith, Paul Littledyke, Danny Brooks, Chris Green, Leon Bradford , Keith Barton and Neil Adams.

Some notable mentions amongst these PBs include Dave (a mere 67) and Leon (a mere 73) knocking 52 seconds and 17 seconds from their respective PBs. Sam MacDonald and Keith Barton started this season with PBs of 29:14 and 29:03 and they have improved by almost 3 minutes both posting an identical time of 26:26. Gareth Smith has gone sub 28 minutes for the first time. For Paul Littledyke this was his first sub 29 minutes of the season and at the same time took 38 seconds from his PB.

Delighted to see another 2 members take part with Robin Scott and Lynette Hutchings and good times by both on their debut, especially Robin on his mountain bike.

Average time for the 26 riders who finished was 28:57.

This Thursday’s time trial takes place at the Croxton junction about a mile to the east of Abbotsley village with sign on at the latest at 6.45pm for a 7.00pm start. Non-members are welcome to "Come and Try".

With 23 points on offer (guests & first timers do not count) the maximum points were taken by Sam who improved his PB by 67 seconds and the evergreen Dave in second place with a 52 second improvement and Gareth in third with a 51 second improvement.

A handicap time under 25 minutes shows the improvement on PB and a time over 25 minutes shows by how much you missed your PB.

n.b. Ian Turner is + 18 seconds as PB is 24:42

With 13 TTs completed plus the Ashman Trophy and with 5 TTs to go the race for the 2016 Handicap Trophy continues. Sam’s excellent PB allowed him to improve his lead on Keith from 22 to 29 points and it will be an interesting run in over the next 5 weeks as both riders are now on the same handicap of 1:26 so it will be all about who can ride to their PB or improve it to ensure maximum points.

Also very good to see first season riders – Neil and Danny – staying in contention and both working hard to outdo one another in terms of PBs this season.

2015 Handicap Trophy winner – Chris Green – continues to amass points and could easily snatch a podium place by the end of the season.
