Greenhow and McDonald take the honours at the Ashman

The Ashman Trophy has been contested every year since 1938 and must be one of the oldest contested cycling trophies across the UK.

The 2018 event attracted 17 riders on a glorious Sunday morning and as it is a Handicap event it does mean that any eligible rider is in with a strong chance of winning provided they can ride close to or beat their PB on one of the two laps.

To be eligible you need to have posted at least two times from the Thursday night TT’s and on the line we had 12 eligible riders plus 5 other members who came along to contest for the Fastest Time.

Also in attendance were Mandy and John as timekeepers and also a number of family members to cheer on their respective partners.

Ashman Handicap Trophy 2018

Congratulations to Mark Greenhow on winning the trophy for 2018. He was one of the few riders to improve on the second “flying” lap and he posted an excellent 53:56 and a net 51:32 to take top spot. Mark has been a regular at the club TT’s for many years and is also an active rider, on behalf of the club, in the inter club competition.

Not far behind, in his debut season, was Jim Robertson followed by Dave Richards in third.

Well done to Mark and everyone who took part on Sunday.

Ashman Fastest TT Trophy 2018

Congratulations to Sam McDonald who covered the two laps in the excellent time of 51:24 and in the process he lapped all but one of the riders to be second home. Mark Greenhow and Simon Elkington were second and third fastest. Good to see Tom Stead back at Abbotslely after a gap of a few years and he has been riding here since he was 16 and after a strong first lap punctured shortly after the start of the second lap.

Ruth Stapleton was fastest lady and was presented with a jersey sourced by Simon Richardson.

Next TT – Thursday 19th July – Sign on by 7.00 and Start at 7.15 pm

Handicap Results

Quick reminder that for the Handicap Trophy points are awarded for the number of eligible riders .Today 17 riders and 12 points on offer. A Handicap Time of 50 minutes or less means that you have either matched your PB or improved on it. A Handicap Time greater than 50 minutes shows how much you are off your PB.

Congratulations to Mark for securing the maximum points today.

Handicap Trophy – 2018 – Running Total

The top 4 at the moment continue to have clear headway in the race for the 2018 Handicap Trophy and Simon Elkington retains first place .Strong performance from Jim has moved him into 3rd place.

As we now enter the holiday season many are considering whether booking those holidays was such a good decision as their chances of winning the 2018 Trophy could be diminished.

Another 7 TT’s with many points still on offer this season.
