Murphy closes in on Elkington for the Handicap Trophy
The excellent run of dry sunny evenings for our TT eventually had to come to an end. The rain had stopped a few hours before the start of the TT and despite some residual dampness on a few of the corners the conditions were good but a mixture of the heavier air and not quite such a favourable wind resulted in no PBs this evening.
This was the first time this season that no PBs were posted. As can be seen from the Handicap Results table only two riders were within a minute of their PB.
18 riders at the start line for the 15th SNCC TT of the season including 5 guests. Very good to see Chris Preston back with us having posted his PB in 2012 and he elected to go off first ahead of Norman. Stephen Lyons was able to make his 2018 debut and welcome back. Also good to see former member Dan Baxter joining us after his move to Bury St Edmunds and a welcome back to Ian Stokes a regular guest for the past 10 years who has been injured this season.
Ian’s brother, Kevin, was fastest home this evening with a 27:24, followed by our own David Lindsay with a 27:25 with three former members filling 3rd, 4th and 5th slots.
Lanterne rouge was the indomitable Norman King and once again our thanks to Mandy, Colin and John for their timekeeping duties which allows us all to enjoy these evenings plus, of course, Mandy’s wonderful home baking on offer.
Average time this evening was 30:53 and to date 50 members have taken part this season. We would encourage more members to join us on a Thursday evening.

Handicap Results
Quick reminder that for the Handicap Trophy points are awarded for the number of riders on the night less Guests and First Time Members. So tonight 18 riders and 13 points on offer. A Handicap Time of 25 minutes or less means that you have either matched your PB or improved on it. A Handicap Time greater than 25 minutes shows how much you are off your PB.
To be in contention to win the 2018 Handicap Trophy you need to do as many TTs as you can and ride as close to or improve on your PB consistently until the end of the season.

Handicap Trophy – 2018 – Running Total
Simon Murphy has closed the gap on Simon Elkington to 1.5 points however he will be absent for the next TT which may allow the other Simon to extend his lead. With 3 TT’s left the destination of the 2018 Handicap Trophy remains wide open. Chapeau to Norman King who has ridden consistently all season.
