& Club Hill Climb championship
Sunday saw the fifth and final event in this year's Inter Club competition, the Hill Climb hosted by SNCC at the 6X/H course at Sharpenhoe Clappers; 900m long at an average gradient of 7%, although with flatter sections at both the start and finish the middle is certainly worthy of being used for both the Inter Club and our Hill Climb Championship.
We went into the final round in second place, although with third & fourth not too far behind us. On the day, Hitchin Nomads narrowly took the win from Beds Road, with SNCC in third place ahead of Icknield Road & CC Ashwell. Overall we held on to second place, with final overall standings as follows:
Beds Road 2018
SNCC 1703
HNCC 1663
IRC 1484
CCA 1411
The changes to the scoring system for this season (with separate points scored by men & women) meant we were always going to struggle to challenge for top spot without many women representing us. By way of contrast, IRC saw almost half their points scored by the women riders, and hopefully this is something we can look to improve upon next year as we make a push to continue our upwards trajectory (5th, 4th, 3rd and now 2nd) and aim for top spot.
Congratulations
and thanks to everyone who represented the club in the competition (a quick check looks like we had twenty two different riders represent the club); every rider is part of the team and even if sometimes your points don't go towards our total in a particular event you will have stopped every rider you beat from the other clubs scoring so many.
With the event also doubling up as our club Hill Climb championship, congratulations are due to Sam who retained his title, with Vince P & Mark G also making the podium. Full results here
