5 PB’s Tonight plus reminder of Ashman Trophy on Saturday 20^th July  

24 riders this evening ready to test themselves against the 11.2 mile SNCC course at Abbotsley on a warm June evening and with the wind on your back for the first three miles to the golf club turn.

This is usually an indicator of PB’s and on the night five were delivered by Ian, Simon, Sam, Richard and Martin.

Fastest home this evening was Sam who for the second time this season pushed under 25 minutes to deliver an excellent time of 24:34 (average speed 27.35 mph) followed by former member Richard with Simon E taking third spot.  

Well done to Ian, on only his second club TT, for going sub 30 minutes and also taking the maximum points for the handicap trophy.

The battle of the Bonds continued this evening with Richard (son) taking a further four seconds from his PB and Martin (father) reducing his PB by two seconds and being only one second from his first sub 30 minute TT.

We welcomed back Tom Muldoon and Stephen Lyons making their 2019 debut’s and from way back in the day Chris Preston and Danny Brooks also made a welcome return. Good to see you all and to date 42 members have tried the TT in 2019.

Care warning on the left hand turns on the course. Do avoid crossing the white line when you make those turns. This is for your safety.

Housekeeping : Reminder that the CTT levy increased to £3/TT for 2019 and a request that once the first riders have lined up for the start that other riders do not ride past the start line as part of their warm up.

Ashman Trophy : This trophy dates back to 1938 and has been competed for almost every year for the past 81 years. It is awarded to the rider with the best net handicap time for 2 laps of the 11.2 course at Abbotsley. To compete you must have taken part in at least 2 club TT’s this season. Any rider has the potential to win and very often a PB on one of the laps will certainly put you in contention for a place. In addition, there is a trophy for the fastest time for the two laps. Note that this event is on a Saturday morning.

Handicap Results

Quick reminder that for the Handicap Trophy points are awarded for the number of riders on the night less Guests and First Time Members. So tonight 24 riders and 21 points on offer. A Handicap Time of 25 minutes or less means that you have either matched your PB or improved on it. A Handicap Time greater than 25 minutes shows how much you are off your PB.

To be in contention to win the 2019 Handicap Trophy you need to do as many TTs as you can and ride as close to or improve on your PB consistently until the end of the season.

Handicap Trophy – 2019 – Running Total

The destination of the 2019 Handicap Trophy remains unknown with 8 TT’s and the Ashman trophy left to provide many more points. It is usually at this time of year that a couple of Thursdays’ are missed due to holiday and the leader board can quickly change as a result. Simon M has regained the lead this week with his PB and first sub 26 minute time.
