2 PB’s Tonight plus reminder of Ashman Trophy on Saturday 20^th July   

For the 11^th TT of the season 21 riders were ready at the start line to test themselves on the challenging 11.2 mile round course at Abbotsley.

The favourable conditions of the previous week were not replicated this evening and whilst still a pleasant dry evening the adverse wind up to the golf club turn would probably prevent fast times.

However, this did not prevent Simon Elkington and Tom Muldoon from delivering the only PBs of the night.

Sam McDonald posted the fastest time of the evening with a 25:10 followed by the two Simon’s in second and third.

The two Simon’s continue their head to head in the race for the 2019 Handicap Trophy with Simon E finding another two seconds on his PB.  

Welcome tonight to John Morris from St Ives CC who made his debut on the SNCC track and we hope to see him again before the end of the season.

It is always worth repeating that without the help from Mandy, John and Mike on the night the rest of us would not be able to ride and it is important to acknowledge and be aware of their ongoing commitment. They are in attendance every week to make sure we can all ride.

Care warning on the left hand turns on the course. Do avoid crossing the white line when you make those turns. This is for your safety.

Housekeeping : Reminder that the CTT levy increased to £3/TT for 2019 and a request that once the first riders have lined up for the start that other riders do not ride past the start line as part of their warm up.

Ashman Trophy : This trophy dates back to 1938 and has been competed for almost every year for the past 81 years. It is awarded to the rider with the best net handicap time for 2 laps of the 11.2 course at Abbotsley. To compete you must have taken part in at least 2 club TT’s this season. Any rider has the potential to win and very often a PB on one of the laps will certainly put you in contention for a place. In addition, there is a trophy for the fastest time for the two laps. Note that this event is on a Saturday morning.

Handicap Results

Quick reminder that for the Handicap Trophy points are awarded for the number of riders on the night less Guests and First Time Members. So tonight 21 riders and 18 points on offer. A Handicap Time of 25 minutes or less means that you have either matched your PB or improved on it. A Handicap Time greater than 25 minutes shows how much you are off your PB.

To be in contention to win the 2019 Handicap Trophy you need to do as many TTs as you can and ride as close to or improve on your PB consistently until the end of the season.

With plenty of points left to be contested before the end of the season the destination of the 2019 Trophy remains to be decided and as we approach the holiday time a few missed TT’s and it can all change.

Simon Murphy lost some ground to Simon Elkington on the night, however he retains his lead.
