3 PBs and Course record
By mid-morning there were doubts that the TT would go ahead as the torrential rain pummelled the 11.2-mile TT course at Abbotsley. The optimists were predicting it would all be gone by 7 pm and the course would be clear. Thankfully, it was to greet the 19 riders at the start line to take part in our second TT of the 2020 season.
The wise and experienced heads were suggesting that the low pressure on the evening would favour good times and so it turned out with almost all of last weeks riders improving their respective times.
Leading the field home for the second successive week was Sam McDonald and only one second from his PB. Hayley Simmonds was second fastest with a time of 25:21 and a new women’s record for the course. This will be Hayley’s last TT with us for 2020 and we look forward to seeing her ride with us again in 2021. Simon Murphy was third home taking twenty seconds from last week.
To follow the 4 PB’s from last week we had another 3 this week with Jim Robertson finding another thirty seconds on the night and also pushing under thirty minutes for the first time. Jamie Bishop (all the way from Harlow) found another twenty seven seconds and Alan Hurst was delighted to take another nine seconds from his PB. Congratulations to all.
Chapeau to the old warrior , Geoff Smith , who turned 75 in May this year and still managed a sub thirty minute time of 29:27. Welcome back to Stephen Muchmore who’s last TT was in 2015 and welcome also to Tim Philips ( St Ives’s CC) who turned in a very respectable time of 25:26.
If you want to ride the course at least one more time then there are 2 TTs left – 20th and 27th- and you need to enter and pay in advance. Entries are allowed on the day.
NEXT TT – THURSDAY 20th AUGUST – 6:45 pm START – NOTE THE EARLIER START TIME AND DON’T FORGET TO TAKE YOUR NUMBER WITH YOU.

Handicap Trophy – 2020
Quick reminder that for the Handicap Trophy points are awarded for the number of riders on the night less Guests and First Time Members. So tonight 19 riders and 15 points on offer. A Handicap Time of 25 minutes or less means that you have either matched your PB or improved on it. A Handicap Time greater than 25 minutes shows how much you are off your PB.
With only 4 TT’s counting towards the 2020 Trophy and to be in contention to win the 2020 Handicap Trophy you need to ride as close to your PB as possible or set some new PB’s over the 4 TT’s.
Congratulations to Jim Robertson for taking the maximum points on offer.

Handicap Trophy – Running Total
At the halfway point the destiny of the 2020 Handicap Trophy remains unpredictable and over the next two weeks we have at least another 30 points available and much will depend on how you ride against your PB. Good luck to all the riders over the next two weeks.
