DASSETT DAWDLE 200k AUDAX was created by Gerrard
While out riding the dassett dawdle audax yesterday I seen a member with the club top on, being a new member I am not sure who it was. I hope you enjoyed the ride like I did.

Sorry I could not but laugh at you'r comment going up one of the hills at Dassett country park, "Help I have lost all my gears" I assume you found them along the rest of the route.

That was almost certainly Chris Preston :)

What did you think to the ride/route? Chris and I really enjoyed the day out, although we would happily never see Daventry again.

I liked the route, plenty of variation in terrain, good one for anyone want to a first 200k audax as for Daventry did not really bother me as riding through 4 miles of Maidenhead at 12:30 in the morning on the 3 down is just as boring.

The other thing I like about the route was it was like a square each leg rode into a near continuous wind direction so the 2 leg was really only the headwind section of it

Speaking to Jackie after the ride she could have done it through the housing estates but felt it would be complicated route sheet and went for the direct option.

Her Bedford Bumble in august I would say is a more challenging course which I done last year.

As a bit of a side note what do you ride Audax events on,as after dong 140 odd miles on my alu spech with 23 size tires I felt pretty battered.

Was thinking perhaps better saddle ( brooks swift as have a B17 but that would look daft on my roadie) and 25's might increase the comfort factor a bit as some of the roads where fairly bad in the last two sections.

Chris,

All depends on the conditions on what bike I use.

On sat I used my spech tarmac carbon one with 23 tyres, but used the seat that came with it.
Normally i'll use my spesh sectuer alu for rides more than 300k with 25 tyres as it has the rack on it, but if the weather is poor i'll use it on shorter rides and in the winter.

I prefer my seat that came with the sectuer as it is more comfortable for longer rides, but I forgot to change it over, so it was bit uncomfortable on the ride.

A tip that I have picked up from other audaxers while riding that kind of distance is have you'r tyre pressure at no more than a 100psi, I do find it makes a more comfortable ride.

The YACF fourm is a good place for finding out helpful information on long distance riding, as it is the audaxers fourm

Yes perhaps running at 115 psi was not a good idea !!

Thanks for the tips.

The rear was fine it was the arms and hands that took a pummelling but all recovered now...already looking forward to doing one again soon.
