After possibly 3 near misses today on our club run ride I think we (...particularly me given today) need to ensure we pay importance to the calls of clear at junctions. Often the following riders will follow a lead rider through a junction even if the rider calls 'car left/right' simply due to not hearing correctly etc.
I think the approach should be that if the first rider at the junction realises much of the group will not get through before traffic on the road being crossed will reach the junction before the riders clear it the action should be to stop with a clear call of 'stop' simply to avoid confusion.
Calls of stop/clear should be strong and anything more complex risks confusion.
Take your time... don't want anyone hurt - really messes up a ride.

Have to agree Richard, part of the reason I ease off a lot more than the rest of group, other part is probably because I had it drummed into me by my mother out on the bike when I was very young.
