Hi

Are any of you registered for the 1 March No Excuses Sportive ?

I am planning to ride the event with a mate from "up north", but getting together with some of the club members would be great. Although we are still discussing the logistics I am looking to start close to 8am and expect a 16mph average.

I'm doing it and 16mph sounds good to me...... although don't be surprised if I fall apart half way around

I'm planning to be there by 07:30 to register.
Riding with a mate of mine from Darkest Devon at no more than 16mph so see you there.
Did someone mention a pint afterwards at the Mill?

After the glowing success of his last report, I'm please to announce that Steve R has been overwhelmingly nominated to write the ‘No Excuses’ report.
Thanks Steve.

far be it for me to nit-pick, but I think you'll find the last report 'Steve' filed (curtailed deluge ride) didn't make it past the editor and is as yet still unpublished

ah ah, .... Steve

Really? Am not aware of any report that should have been published and wasn't. Of course it could be down to failing mental faculties on my part...

not expecting the Pulitzer Committee to drop everything, but sent this a few days after the ride

Wet Wet Wet - 26th Jan '14

(older readers may quibble that the Wets' biggest hit was a cover version of a 1960's hit, but we'll save any mention of 'Troggs' until any future adventures take us near to Corby)

around 20 brave souls gathered at the Square on Sunday morning, with smaller groups taking on the shorter & longer routes and eleven the medium route (which your reporter chose to ride)

we set of out of town past Hail Weston towards Great Staughton, where at the five mile mark the first of the day's rain caused a temporary halt whilst jackets were donned and silent (and completely unanswered) prayers for it just to be a passing shower were said. A good pace was maintained (by most) as we went past Pertenhall, Swineshead and on to Yelden, being joined at this stretch by your Chairman on his single speed (although he didn't mention it). However, by the 17 mile mark just outside of Chelveston the persistent heavy rain had gone well beyond what could be considered 'character building' and a collective decision was made to knock things on the head and head back. As it happened, this had no impact upon the next five miles of riding, but rather than turn off at Covington and loop around back past Spaldwick as planned we stuck to the B645 and at a variety of paces / heart rate zones* made our way back.

As the Scottish popsters [almost] sang:

I've no feeling in my fingers
I've no feeling in my toes
Rain is all around me
and so my feelings go

OK will post soon - on the way out the door now.

But never saw it before - where did you submit it?

BTW - what date was the ride?

26th Jan, possibly the wettest day in recorded history
