is it suggesting that climbing 3500m in 30km (a steady 10% / 1 in 10) is three times harder than climbing 3500m in 10km (a totally mental constant 1 in 3) or am I just too sleep deprived / Aussie wicket crazy to make sense of it?

Hi there,, just what happended to "turning up" and riding an event ...i find this type of article a complete waste of space...is now cycling for the "mandy pandys lead me by the hand brigade" ..the mind boggles. Geoff,,,,,,,,,,,,,

It's not my cup of tea either Geoff, but they're getting ever more popular.
Reading between the lines, I think the subtext is that British Cycling will get round to some kind of standardisation/code of conduct (if they haven't already of course) for sportives which hopefully will stop people getting ripped off. You've only got to look at the amount of entrants and the entry fee to see some shady types might look at these and think it's ripe for the taking.
