Noted an article in the Hunts Post this week stating that the online highways fault reporting system has been upgraded to provide:

- Easier data entry for the public
- Improved tracking, so people reporting online can follow the progress of a repair
- The ability to enter a second fault without the need to re-enter personal/contact details
- Better system capacity to ensure fault reports do not fail

To report a highways fault, go to www.cambridgeshire.gov.uk/transport/roads/reportingafault or call 0345 045 5212

Problems that can be reported online include potholes, trees issues, signal faults, damaged signs, and bridge damage. Rights of way issues can be reported too, such as a damaged stile or an overgrown path.

The County Council is responsible for all public roads in Cambridgeshire except the M11, A1(M), A1, A11, A14, A47 and A428. To report problems on these roads contact the Highways Agency.

Useful information and given we use a fair amount of roads to the West of St Neots (past the A1) these fall under Bedford Borough Council and their Highways department can be found here

www.bedford.gov.uk/transport_and_streets...ghways_helpdesk.aspx

Theirs is an email system but I have had a better response from them about Bushmead Road and the road from Wilden to Little Staughton than I have had from Cambridgeshire County Council about roads where they are responsible.

I.e. Cambs give a generic "we are confident in our contractors and that the road surface is adequate" vs a same day response from Bed Borough Council saying they would get someone out to inspect by the end of the week.

While not a road fault per se I think everyone needs to be aware (if you've not already spotted it) that a new "tabletop" type speed ramp has replaced the traffic calming at the junction of Bushmead Road and Monarch Road.

The original plan was for this to be put in place and the traffic calming to be put in place between the A1 bridge and the Kingdom Hall, i.e. pretty much at the town sign. I'll update this if/when this phase of it goes ahead.

The reason for the move as the existing traffic calming was not helping flow at the Monarch Road junction and was not actually slowing down traffic coming in from the Bedfordshire side of the bridge. The 30 limit cannot be moved to the other side of the bridge as this moves it from Cambridgeshire to Bedfordshire ...

Dragging this back up to the top, I've reported the state of Barford Road (Little Barford roundabout to the Tempsford junction) to Bedford Borough Council and they have advised that someone will be out to inspect the road.

They have also copied the resulting ticket to Central Bedfordshire Council as part of the road falls under their remit. Again a much better response on reporting faults than I have had with Cambridgeshire County Council. Makes me wonder where this rise in council tax is going to go ...
