Help finding Campag freehub was created by alec
The overhaul of my Campag Nucleon wheel hubs has gone swimmingly except that the inner bearing on the freehub body is shot and Campag do not consider the freehub body to be serviceable. I think it would be possible, but fiddly, to take the freehub body apart and replace the bearings (it looks like the bearings have to be tapped out) but before I do that I'd like to try to find a replacement freehub body. Unfortunately, the wheels date from 2001 and Campag don't seem to make spares any longer. If anyone can help me with one of these solutions below, there's a pint in it for you.

- Find a source of new or NOS of the freehub body FH-RE415 or FH-CH215 (freehub body for Campag oversize aluminium axle late 90s to ~2006)

- Find a source of NOS Record hubs from the same period at a reasonable price ie £60 - £70

If I can't find the parts, I'll have a go at replacing the bearings in the freehub - that'll be worth selling tickets for.

I'm a bit annoyed with Campag for not making spares for expensive wheelsets thrt they stopped selling new only 6 or 7 years ago. Apart from the freehub, the wheels are lovely and would cost several hundred squids to replace with new equivalents.

I would seriously consider going down the replacement hub route to save you time and effort and get them rebuild with new spokes (Dom should be able to do that for you)

Thanks David for the input.

Unfortunately Nucleon wheels use non-standard hubs and non-standard bladed spokes, so there is no chance of getting them rebuilt with replacement hubs. Current Campag Record hubs only come in 32 hole standard wire spoke format.

If I can find a rear NOS Record hub from from 2000 - 2006 at reasonable cost I will cannibalise it for the free hub body which is identical to the Nucleon one. No ambition to save time and effort - getting these wheels refurbished is part of the fun.

It might be worth having a chat with John (Mechanic) from Priory Marina Cycles in Bedford, he's a real Campag enthusiast - www.priorymarinacycling.co.uk/

Thanks for the input guys.

Geoff: Thanks - good scheme, but I can't see anything that helps. There is a lot on ebay worldwide but unfortunately nothing that seems to be what's needed. There is one rear Record hub of the right vintage in USA for over £200 and one Nucleon rear hub in Germany for £110, both used. Since there's no way of telling how used they are then there's no point spending that kind of wonga.

Mark: will call John next week, thanks.

Just an update on how I managed to sort this. It's a win for this forum and for Campag.

Velotech Cycling is a Campag approved Service Centre and provides Service de Courses for racing internationally. Graeme from Velotech has a search on the web for mentions of Campag, came up with this forum and contacted me directly through the website. He offered to fit new bearings in the freehub body at a very reasonable cost. Throughout the process his communication was excellent. I have just got the body back, and reassembled the wheel and it's running like new. Voila - another lease of life for my Nucleon wheels. I can't praise Velotech and Graeme enough:

That's excellent. Some many times you run around trying to find the technical part in the tech specs and always draw a blank, so to have someone find you!! Now that's customer service. Big thumps UP!!
