I've had some Schwalbe Ultremo ZX Evolution V-Guard Folding Road Tyre to race on for the summer and they have been good but have degraded fast!
I'm looking for a bit of an all rounder summer tyre any thoughts?

The Continental GP 4000s are pretty good...

I'll second the Continental GP4000s and I think Tony Scopes uses the same Vredesteins as Andy Mc. Heard good things about the upper end of Vittoria spec as well (Rubino?) Base spec Vittorias which came with my Fuji when I bought it weren't very grippy but lasted quite well (pain to change though).

I can also vouch for the Conti 4000s - recommended them to Phil on last weekends club run. The 4 seasons are and excellent winter tyre too.

I used to used Vittoria Rubino Pro - I don't think they're as durable as Conti's and as Gareth says I always found them very tight to fit. Mind you it's at least 6 years since I last used them so my opinion isn't very current!

Hi i ride vittoria rubino pro's 150tpi,,these tyres are the best i have used, i get about 10,000kms from them, i change back to front vice versa at about 5k,,you can blow them up to 8/9 bar and they just ping along,,just a thought Geoff.. :kiss:

Please note the Vittoria's that came with my bike were definitely NOT Rubinio Pros. More like 50tpi not 150!

If you're willing to put the money down I think Simon R got some of the Vittoria "open tubs" (clincher built in exactly the same way as a tubular, i.e. no vulcanisation, hand built/lay up, only difference is having a bead rather than an inner tube sewn into it).

I use Specialised Armadillo All Condition, mine have lasted a good 12000 miles and only £20 a go! Had many a time where Ive come home with objects stuck in the tyre but never gone through (glass/stones/thorns etc)

i went for the Vredsteins as i'm hoping for the low rolling resistance for racing

Unless you're racing on a smooth purpose built race track, I think claims of low rolling resistance on the open road are a myth, especially on our road surfaces. For racing, go for something light, but durable and take all claims of super low rolling resistance with a pinch of salt.
