Thank you, gentlemen.
Alec, how does your Campag react to horrible, gritty winter roads?
Absolutely fine in my experience. I have Campag Athena on the bike I used to audax - very high mileage bike with very long individual rides - up to 600km, sometimes in awful conditions, never had a problem.
You've got to wash and lube regularly mind - this stuff isn't fit and forget. Same for all the brands.

Campag for me. At higher ends I've only got practical experience of Campag and I've never felt the need to look else where. I much prefer the shifting on Campag to Shimano and Sram, but that's a personal preference.
At the lower end, I've always had problems with Shimano (Sora and Tiagra). I've found them to be poor quality and less robust than campag equivalents (mirage, veloce), rust being a particular on commuters which don't get cleaned after every ride! Campag Veloce on the other hand is a wonderful robust groupset - last winter I replaced the brakes on my Langster with the original 19 year old veloce brakes from my first road bike... Couldn't imagine doing that with lower end Shimano.

Hi there. strange isn't it i did over 200.000 kms on a tiagra group set before the shifters just went AOL..being a campag man since 1959 i changed to shimano because i could not get on with the small downward shift lever, with shimano it was all in one place..I have dura ace on my UK bike,(old fashioned set up ) which is so smooth its unreal..today i think it comes down to pay yor money and GO..Pity that being on the latest and very expensive gizzmos these days is the norm, but look at the times done on £3000+ bikes at the club TT, does money buy speed.?.fink not.ah ah Geoff.........
