I've been using Strava on my iPhone to record my rides, but I didn't have a heart-rate monitor. I did some reading on the Strava website and found the app is compatible with the Wahoo biometric kit. Wahoo do various things, including a module that plugs into the phone and acts as a receiver for the various transmitters they offer (cadence, power, heart rate).
However, as I have a Mophie case and battery pack to prolong the phone's life while using the GPS, I can't use any plugin devices.
Wahoo do a bluetooth heartrate monitor which arrived this morning form Wiggle. At £60 it's not the cheapest, but not hugely expensive either.
it's a very nice little piece of kit. Very light and although battery powered, the batteries are supposed to last for years (CR2032 cell)
It attaches with a chest strap like most others, but it's turned on by attaching it to the strap and putting it on. The strap attaches with a press stud at each end. To pair it with your iPhone, you just have to make sure that bluetooth is enabled, and the app does the rest. No searching for devices, no entering codes, it just works.
I'll be going out for another ride tomorrow evening, so will see how it performs when used properly and not just wandering about the house with a coffee in my mit.
