Advice Wanted - Hybrid Bikes

My Son has recently moved to London and wants to buy a 'Hybrid' type bike for getting around.
He has up to £600 to spend, any advice/recommendations welcome.

Mark, I had a Boardman hybrid, it was a nice bike with 700c wheels, disc brakes and Sram shifters/rear mech. If you bent the stays to get around the disc calipers full mudguards could be fitted and also a rear rack. I think they still sell them for £500-£600. Sadly I didn't get on that well with mine as I think it was too big for me and I didn't find the flat handlebars comfortable over about 20 miles so I sold it- but they are a nice commuter bike.

Will he have somewhere safe to keep it? If not, I wouldn't spend anywhere near that much, especially if it is being left in a public place.

If he is going to spend that much on a bike, I would set aside about £100 for locks. Buy two, a relatively cheap coil lock and a good quality d-lock - I would recommend a Kryptonite, I use this for leaving my bike at the station....www.bikeradar.com/gear/category/accessor...taboudit-mini-16565/

Edinburgh Bicycles have some excellent value bikes in their Revolution brand.

Since he's after a hybrid, I take it he's not moving anywhere near Shoreditch?
