In my quest to cut down on the amount of time spent by the roadside, I'm thinking of getting some tyres that might get me though the winter (hopefully) without too many flats.
During the summer I'd been using the Vredstein tricomps (as recommended by Andy Mac) that were/are lovely but a spate of punctures makes me think when it got colder they're not quite what I'm looking for now (although they do a 4 seasons version).
So what would people recommend? Gatorskins? Continental 4 Seasons? Schwalbe Duranos? Michelin Pro 4 endurance?
Tony.

Conti 4 seasons get my vote. I haven't used pro 4's but I've used pro 3's - good race tyre...until they puncture.

I've just (4 weeks ago) put some Conti 4000s 25mm on my bike I really like them.
Puncture free so far :: wanders off to find a lump of wood::

I've ridden my single speed road bike (as opposed to my single speed mtb

) problem free on Conti 4 seasons around Grafham Water, along the 3-shires way and, most testing of all, the Sustrans NCN.

Hi
I use the Conti 4000's during the summer and on winter wheels us the Conti 4 seasons. As you are looking to buy specific winter tyres it is certainly worth considering get a wider tyre if you have the clearance on your bike.
Aero debates are a mute point during winter riding, but the wider tyre will give additional benefits.
Hope that helps

tbh, I'm not looking specifically to buy winter tyres, just tyres that won't puncture! The Vredsetins I was using were fine and they were 25's. I don't think 2mm makes a huge amount of difference, especially doing the riding I do, same goes for anything aero

Hi T i used Vittoria Rubino "pro" tyres.(150tpi).i get over a years riding from them,(+15,000kms ),i blow them up to 8 bar (112psi )..if and when i fit new inner tubes i buy a anti creavison bomb from the local bike shop, half in each then finish by track pump to as said 8 bar..they are well worth it and surprisingly cheaper than most see ya Geoff.......

For the confused anti-creavison bombe is the French for the anti-puncture gel/compounds ...
Keeping an interested eye on this

I'm on my second winter on continental gatorskins and without wishing to temp fate haven't had a single "problem" so far touch wood. However I have now put continental revo sealant in for added peace of mind- goes in quite easily but you must have tubes with removable valve cores, and with enough for four tyres works out at about £2.25 per tyre and adds about 50 grammes to each wheel.
If this stuff works as I hope it will it would certainly save a lot of time and hassle on club runs.

I've plumped up the 4 seasons and for those that are interested, probikekit look to be the cheapest at £30 a pop but if you add CLINCH2UK at the checkout, you get 10% off. Hopefully Simon will get a free run at the puncture trophy next year
