Double Century around the South Downs
To promote the GSD Giant
21 or 22 June 2014
I’ve recently have the mad idea of riding a double-century (200 miles) in 24 hours on or near the longest day of the year with the aim of raising awareness of the AGSD-UK and our annual Charity Sportive, the GSD Giant (7th September). The proposed route circumnavigates the South Downs and is intended to show that 44, 76, or 104 miles around the Downs should be possible for most reasonably fit people - with just a little training.
As if to motivate me further I learnt yesterday that Raleigh Bikes UK are encouraging cyclists to ride 205 miles in one day in honour of Tommy Godwin who rode an average of 205 miles every day in 1939; a record that still stands. I’ve talked with Raleigh UK who are interested in supporting our event through their local franchises.
Please let me know if you are interested in joining this epic ride; once I know who and how many cyclists might be up for the challenge I can start to arrange the logistics – i.e. whether we cycle together, in separate groups and where the best start position(s) might be.
