It may be I'm being ignorant but is there anyway for me to download the 'ride with gps' route to my Garmin 500 without having to subscribe?
Any help welcomed.

Yes, you downloaded them with the TCX file to a folder on your computer, then transfer them to GARMIN then NEW FILES when you connect the 500 to the PC
