It is with great sadness that we inform you that long term member of SNCC, Richard Saw, died on Sat 6th Jan 24.
He leaves behind his wife Andrea (Andy) and 2 sons. Those of you who knew him know he was a very kind, proud man. Richard attended many of the club's social midweek rides, he was a founder member of the mid-week SNOGs group, and until recent years would attend almost every Tuesday and Friday ride. He was still a member of his local club Oxonians CC and would still ride with them, until recent years. In addition he loved going off-road and this added an extra dimension to his cycling, especially after being diagnosed with Apraxia in the last few years. He enjoyed the clubs/SNOGs social evenings and would love a pint in the Ale Taster, he would often cycle to the socials and wobble home afterwards. In the last few years members of the SNOGs would ride with Richard to ensure he still got out, this alleviated the symptoms of his illness and allowed him still to get his coffee and cake hit.
In the words of his son - Good morning, sorry to bring sad news but my Father, Richard Saw, died last night peacefully in Addenbrooke’s Hospital following a stroke just after Christmas. Thank you all for cycling with him over the years, especially recently it was a great source of pleasure for him to get out with like minded people regardless of his health issues. Kind regards Tom Saw (son).
He was a bell-ringer for Southoe, Little Paxton and Diddington Parishes. In addition he was a regular church-goer, attended most Southoe Functions and was in demand for the quiz teams. He loved his Rugby Union and Cricket and was a season ticket holder of Northampton. He also loved sailing, going to his holiday home in Dorset and seeing his sons, their partners and grandchildren.
We are in contact with his son and he will advise us of the funeral arrangements.
