Maybe we should re-name the club St Neots Cycling, Cafe and Cake Club?

I have to say the grade of coffee is muck at best of times, staff mostly rude and disinterested at best of times. I've asked for discount on behalf of club and fallen on deaf ears. Yes it is convenient to meet but that will change in the winter. Having said that you pays your money and you makes your choice ! Personally i am happy to try another coffee stop .

Too much cake and coffee and you could end up like the following gentlemen.

Don't say you were not warned

Well, seems to have stimulated some debate!

Mark - Good point about the Market Square being a good advert for the club, although I think the website has been the prime driving force behind the increase in new members.

Yes - all multinational employ locals to some extent but it still isn't quite the same as purchasing from a completely locally owned cafe. They also employ locals and dont have the vast cash reserves of large chains to get them through harder times. I don't think we would put St Nero's staff out of a job if we didn't buy our coffee from them occasionally! :)

Re : Location - the market square is an obvious central location for the start of all club runs, but I don't think it always has to be the final stop. We don't all live in the centre of St Neots so most people have a journey of some sort to get home after a club run. 2 or 3 miles radius isn't going to make much difference after a 60 mile ride.

I like Gerrad's idea of doing different cafe stops at the end of rides. Would help spread the image of the club and perhaps give us a taste of some different coffee and a different view. Help break the "ground hog day" effect of some club runs... PLEASE no more trips to Oundle this year!

Feck it - forget the cycling and just turn into coffee tasters! :woohoo:

Oh I don't know ... Ireland is down past Old Warden isn't it? I'm sure there's a pub just after the village sign ...

I would have to agree with the contingent that would like to add a little variety to the cafe at the end of the club rides.

I think the Market Square is a great place to meet and is central, I think that changing the location so there is more variety would be a great benefit to spreading a wider net in terms of people who see the club in a good light.

I don't think you need to advertise the club though, the site does that as to the riders themselves. Also if the club goes to the same place every week, its likely the same people will see them. We're all creatures of habit. Also hasn't membership grown massively, we don't have an issue, cycling is popular.

I'm not suggesting never going to Nero's again, but maybe they'll be more inclined to entice the club back if they notice the impact a few less visits makes on their till.

Late to the party, and with an opinion that probably doesn't count as my attendance of club rides has been non-existent this year.

Will I burn in hell for suggesting the ambience at riverside. I know sustrans rides use it. The staff in there in my opinion have always been quite friendly and from what I've seen the food doesn't look to bad and there's loads of trees and chavs to rest your bikes against
