Geoff,

So you never drank/don't drink coffee? Apparently prior to 2004 the caffeine limit in urine was 12 microgram/ml in urine, said to be equivalent to around eight cups of espresso (from road.cc).

That's a lot of coffee. Still I've learnt something.

hi R.O....yes i also learnt quite a lot with this post..living in the past sometimes clouds all the new stuff being issued... i see in many cycling magazines, energy bars powered by this and that,,i just wonder if they really do work,,,me i take jam sandwiches wrapped in tin foil on long rides, other than that,, i eat the very nice LIDL chocolate covered energy bars 99.centimes for 8, now that's good value..see ya soon,,,G...........

If you want to be really up-to-date, you should switch the aluminium foil for some carbon fibre wrapping ;)

Good spot. It'll probably be on iPlayer afterwards, but I'll set the PVR to record as I'll probably still be panting around the TT course at that time :)

Also noticed that ITV4 has a thing about Bradley Wiggins on at the same time.

Looks like it..

Interesting that they DID mention the only supplements/additives that were shown to work were caffeine and creatine. This is pretty much the same info we had when I studied sport science over 10 years ago. While caffeine abuse can see you thrown out of competition, creatine is permitted and widely used, although it's used to build muscle mass and can actually increase weight and fluid retention.

Plus ca change.....
