An email from Garmin...... not very helpful.

"Thank you for contacting Garmin Europe.

I am sorry to hear of your troubles and am happy to help.

Unfortunately the issue you are referring to is something that we are aware of and are working hard towards a resolution for it however we do not have a timeframe for this to be resolved.
When this has been fixed, it will be released in a software update.

I’m sorry for the inconvenience.

If there is anything else I can help you with then please let me know"

Success !!!

Bored with waiting for Garmin I tried again to fix the map issue. From the Garmin Connect website (I clicked on the link for last Sunday's routes) I selected the "new features" button at the top of the screen.

The following pop-up includes an option to get Garmin Express which, according to Garmin, "installs on your computer and smoothly moves information between your device and Garmin Connect, replacing ANT Agent, Garmin Communicator Plugin and Garmin Express Fit. It even updates your device software!"

Once installed, and after I had installed any updates and sync'd Garmin Express to my Garmin Connect Account, all seems to be well again.

Hope this helps those who are still having issues !

At risk of incurring the wrath of Mark again ... There was a Garmin Connect issue? :woohoo:

705 seemed fine ... apart from the battery dying too quickly on club runs only!

Hi GS my 705 also lost power after 5/6 hours, that's one reason i upgraded to a 800, i have not run it flat but after 4/5 hours on the bike the power meter still reads 75% charge left..see ya G

Geoff my Garmin 705 has initially lasted 6-8 hours, since the New Year it will only last an hour to an hour and a half on club runs but I was out for a longer duration on Saturday with one other rider and it still showed plenty of battery when I got home.

It just seems weird that it confines this behaviour to Sundays only and it's pretty much dead on an hour for the first battery warning then an half hour later it's dead. Even sat it on a window sill at home where it will constantly "search" for GPS signal as it can't quite pick up enough satellites and it lasted 4 hours.

New battery time I think but at least you can change it with the 705

Gareth

To be honest, I think the reason it only does this on a Sunday is because we are moving so fast it continually struggles to find the satellites

This would certainly explain your Garmin "bonking" and hitting the wall.

Wall charger, as I say charged it on Friday night and it lasted well over 3 hours (as that was "moving time" for the ride I did) and again topped it off Sunday morning but lasted exactly the same time as other Sundays.
