Longer than that....remember we have to stop at controls to press our tweed and trim the beards !!!! ;)

rofl! You've still got time to order these before the weekend: www.wiggle.co.uk/shimano-sd66-spd-sandals/

Don't forget the scotch eggs, the fuel of audax champions (apparently) :).

is there a limit on rider numbers?

I like the look of this but waiting to see what the weather is like nearer the day; however wouldn't want to miss out if registering in advance is recommended by those who know about these things

I'm not sure if there's a rider limit (which isn't very helpful), however the Stevenage page that Chris linked to does say they "encourage everyone to enter as early as possible to guarantee a place".

if I were you I'd see what odds you can get on rider No.534 being the one to suffer the most punctures ;-)

If you are #534 then i dont think there is a limit, worse case just ride anyway and skip the controls

The reason why organisers like you to enter as early as possible is so than can order the brevet cards. These are normally sent for 2 weeks before the event.

Big events like the Stevenage one the organiser will probably order extra ones for on the line entries, but on smaller rides the organiser normally asks for the amount of entries received.

Just about every event has drop outs on the day so the organisers will use their cards for on the line entries.

On a other note looking at the controls if they are the same set up as 2 years ago when I rode it,
the Old Swan tea shop had hot drinks and cakes for sale by the event organisers, the Mocha's café at Saffron Walden is a normal run café.
The Village hall at Therfield was run by the organisers with a range of cakes and sandwich's on sale quite cheap.

My suggestion for riding this would be to get your card stamp at the first 2 without really stopping for anything and have a break at Therfield (46miles) as the stops can be quite congested if their is a lot of riders. :P :P :P

Slightly hijacking the thread here, but have you ridden the Burford Bumble before Ian? It's one of Jackie's, and I really enjoyed the Dassett Dawdle earlier this year, so if the BB route is a nice one I'll sign up for that one in 2014, too (although doing a 200 in mid-February might be a bit daft).

Jackie comes up with some great names for the rides, doesn't she :)
