I would be more than happy to take a coffee stop group out once the winter is out the way (no one likes stopping in winter)
I can't commit to every week but could definetly do alternate weeks or once a month dependant on interest.
Hi Dave thank you for your offer to lead 'Coffee Stop Group' in the summer but please tell me, are you a current member of St Neots Cycling Club?
Mark, I will openly admit I am not a paid up member of the club this season, hence my absense from all but a couple of club runs in the early spring and all other events.
My reason being that, unlike previous seasons, SNCC have not be able to offer me anything that fits my ability and interests. If a more social and casual ride such as my suggested coffee stop ride was to take off I would happily be a member tomorrow.
This may sound hypocritical and feel free to tell me to butt out but as a 'lost' member I would like to air my views as to why I have been absent this year.
Well Dave, words almost fail me!
I will send you a 'Private Message' as this is not the best place to air my views to your reply.

Oh and 1 more item I have seen mentioned on the forum which may be good to discuss is Helmets.
I think especially as we are looking to be a "go ride club" encouraging young riders to take up the sport.
I think the club should become ambassadors and make Helmets mandatory at club events (incl club rides)
Rather than discuss the perceived pro's/con's of Helmets, I think it may be best to focus on whether the club with increased visibility want to become an ambassador for "safer riding".
Accidents happen and it is good idea to be prepared as best as possible.
I for one am very passionate about wearing helmets. Maybe the committee would consider a survey from club member's if it needs guidance from its peers.

...then what next ,compulsory insurance ?
Chris not sure insurance is going to help prevent a serious head injury, and I can assure you from experience it does not help manage for the rest of your life the consequences of a brain trauma. Please see link below which has some interesting facts and short and non exhaustive list of "Effects"
www.headway.org.uk/key-facts-and-statistics.aspx
Please see above the tone of my comment was with reference to
leading by example and being ambassadors for safer riding. What example do we want to set for new riders /(our)children?

Is there any chance that this thread can disappear now?
helmets, club runs ect Its all getting a bit mundane now. lets all enjoy life and love our fellow man/woman. Lets all get out on our bikes with big smiles on our faces.

David, true insurance won't protect you from a head injury, but while not to meaning to trivialise, I would have thought good third party insurance would certainly help following an incident if the fault was not yours.
If part of the agenda for wearing helmets is to promote a safe cycling image, then surely it is an extension to being a responsible cyclist. Personally I believe having BC insurance is a responsible thing to do and would encourage everyone to have. Equally not using headphones, winter group riding with mudguards and lights for low light conditions are all part of that responsible cycling continuum. Note, I'm not meaning to imply here that not wearing a helmet is irresponsible.
The proper place for this debate now really is the AGM where we can have a frank debate. However, I do not think we can look at helmets in isolation, other issues like those I and others have mentioned, which would materially affect club runs, should also be included for the simple reason that hey would contribute to either greater group safety or comfort.

I'm all for mudguards in the winter but i'm sure I'll be in a very small minority because they don't look very 'pro' do they?
